Spectra is leaving me already

Spectra wasn’t really happy here, so I put her up for sale on the norwegian forum Dukkehuset.
The good news is she already found a new mommy, and we’ll be doing a trade! I’m getting another Draculaura 😀 I have to admit I love the colored MH better than the white skinned Spectra, and since pink is one of my favorite colors I’ve been wanting another Draculaura to play with. It really couldn’t have gone any better!
I’ll miss Spectra a little though, her transparent hands and feet are so awesome! If only they did a pink girl with transparent parts, I’d be all over that.
Anyway, goodbye little Spectra, I hope your new mommy will love you lots ^^
I’ve also started coating my Clawdeen! I’m not sure how I want her to look yet, but I’m toying with the idea of using paints on her instead of pencils. It’ll be an adventure for sure 😛

I love her skin color. She has a small flaw on her forehead, so I don't feel bad about removing her paint later 😛

It’s the first Monster H doll that I’ve actually really liked the default make-up on. I’m still going to remove it though 🙂
I may have decided to sell Spectra, and possibly Abbey. We’ll see, I’m not in any hurry just yet but especially with Spectra I just don’t like her skin color that much. I don’t know why I keep thinking I’ll like a WS doll, when I never do 😛
Anyway, I probably wont be working on Clawdeen just yet, and I’m running seriously low on MSC, but I’ll get her done eventually 🙂

Abbey

I finally finished Abbey’s face.

I have to admit I’m not as happy with her face as I am with Draculaura’s, but somehow.. even if I don’t really like the head mold of Abbey.. she has become dear to me. I feel like I have some sort of ugly duckling love for her 😛 She is absolutely more cartoon-ish with her huge eyes, and she has quite the underbite, and I love her 😛

Monster High madness

I’m blown away by the positive feedback I’ve gotten on my Draculaura on Flickr 🙂 People seem to really like her, and I have to admit I’m loving her lots myself 😀
Spectra however, is giving me a headache. I can’t seem to get her to look nice. I’ve tried painting her three times, and I’ve even managed to get some stains on her that just won’t go away.. Not sure how I managed it, but since she cost me a bit more than Draculaura it just had to happen 😛 I’m not giving up though, I’ll get her right some day!
Aaand.. I bought a third one 😛 She is a Skull Shores Abbey Bominable, her glittery hair and body was just too cute to pass up! I don’t have box opening photos of her because I opened her while Skyping with mom 😉 I’ll have some photos to show soon though. I’ve already removed her face, and she is so cute!

Step 1

Remove the FACE!

This is not a tutorial, but I thought I’d share how I do this 😛
Since I’m keeping her hair for now, I didn’t bother going through the terrible ordeal of taking her head off. Instead I wrapped her hair in paper and masked the hairlines with tape. I used pure acetone and q-tips to remove the paint, being careful not to drag it around too much as that only leaves smudges everywhere.
After removing the paint I washed her with mild soap and rinsed thoroughly, as the acetone will damage plastic if left there too long. I noticed some spots I had missed, so I did everything once more, acetone and q-tips, wash and rinse.
I got a lot of water in her hair, so now I’m waiting for it to dry. The next step will be adding a layer of MSC 🙂

I wasn’t supposed to buy another one yet, but they had one Spectra left and I couldn’t resist ;D
For now she’ll keep her hair, but of course she’ll get a new face. I love her face, and I can’t wait to see her blank!

A million things on my mind

Allright, I just need to get some stuff out 😛
If I had a billion dollars on my account, I’d collect ALL the things. Old toys, new toys, collectables, figurines, almost all kinds of dolls (except porcelaine, clowns and ventriloquist dolls) and I’d buy a house solely to display my collection in.
But I don’t have very much money at all, so I try to collect only the things that bring me the most joy. BJD’s, and a little Danbo and a Jun (the pink rabbit).
But one temptation arose. A new trend, painting and customizing Monster High dolls. At first I liked that there was a doll with “joints” out there besides BJD’s, but at the same time they reminded me of pro ana bratz dolls. As time went by I started liking them more and more, and when I saw some of the most lovely customs, I knew I wanted to try and paint one.
But I didn’t get one, simply because I’m no good with paints. It’s my biggest issue in the BJD hobby as well, I lack the control of acrylics (and watercolor pencils) that I see the pro’s have, and I can’t stop comparing myself to the very best, so I’m never satisfied. I was afraid I’d be stuck with a doll that looked horrifying.
Today, I decided to try anyway. I bought myself a Draculaura. I removed her face, and hair. I have now started with pastels, and decided to try using watercolor pencils instead of acrylics.
I don’t have any photos of her face-up yet, but please enjoy her box opening!

I like her heart, don't like how she seems cross eyed all the time

When I bought her I knew I wouldn’t feel the same way for her, as I do my BJD kids. That didn’t stop me from feeling giddy on my way home, I was looking forwards to getting her out of the box. And when I saw her blank face, I felt more already than I thought possible.
I decided to work with her mold when creating her new face, I hope to finish her soon so I can show her off. Lines will be grainy because of the watercolor pencils (how Andreja does it so well I will never know) but I don’t mind for some reason ^^
